What a fantastic start to the season.
After the early excitement of snow in May had died down, there were concerns that ski season 2009 may not get off to a good start. And with no snow falls leading up to opening weekend, it was indeed looking a bit grim.
How wrong everyone was!
This weekend saw the opening of snow season 2009 at Mt Buller and the resort has received 40cms of snow over the past three days with the best snow dumps still to come this week. I’m very jealous of people who did head up to Mt Buller for the weekend. I can imagine it is just glorious to be sharing the snow dump with a moderate crowd.
I’m sure the people who cancelled their bookings at Nutcracker are kicking themselves now.
If the snow continues to dump over the next two days, lifts could be up and running this coming weekend. The tobogganing area may be opened in the next day or two. Snow making has commenced in the usual places making the chances of numerous ski runs opening a big possibility come this weekend.
Snow is forecasted to fall heavily over the next 24 to 48 hours with small flurries continuing into the weekend.
People think I’ve been rubbing my hands because it’s cold, but I’m actually rubbing them with excitement
