Mt Buller Fire Threat

by nutcrackerskiclub on December 8, 2006

Hi Everyone,

I’m sure that everyone is aware of the fires up in the Alpine region this week.

The Mt Buller Tourist Road is now officially closed and only residents with Identification, that have elected to stay, and Emergency services are able to access the road. The road will not open till further notice.

This weekend ahead presents a very real threat to the Mt Buller Villiage, lets hope that the brave fire fighters who risk their lives, including our lodge manager, Carol, are able to perform their job with the high proficiency that we have seen in the past.

I think it’s fortunate that we had the working party last month as I had the opportunity to take the photo album, with the precious and irreplaceable photos of Nutcracker, with me as I am scanning them onto disc. Unfortunately there is stil alot of memorabilia still up there, let’s hope that everything works out and the fire danger passes without any loss.

On a humorous side our plans to redevelop the club might be fast tracked a bit!

I personally think the  ’Grand Old Girl’ can stand the heat!

If any of you want an update there is a really good link via the Country Fire Authority website.

The “Snow Cams” link on the side of the page has a good news section that is up to date with any information, including road closures and when the road will re-open.

Let’s hope for Good Luck.
