Mt Buller Fire Update 6

Hi All,

Was very surprised to hear that there was an increase in fire activity on the western side of Buller yesterday, with the fire reaching the summit but not an imminent threat to the village. Aircraft are still water bombing the area which has been successful in minimising damage to the surrounding environment and the fire tower.

Vicroads are continuing to patrol the Mt Buller Tourist Road for fallen trees and rocks. The road was briefly opened for independant travel to Management, Operators and property owners during the week but has since been closed again due to the fire threat until further notice.

I will post again if there are any updates.

 Cheers

Mt Buller Fire Update Part 5

Hi All,

Fires continue to close in on Mt Buller with NNE winds pushing the fire along. Spot fires have now reached the lower elevations of Mt Buller on its northern side and are starting to occur on both sides of the  Mt Buller Tourist Road.

The Mt Buller Tourist Road remains closed to anyone but emergency vehicles and will remain this way until further notice.

Those remaining in the Village are on full alert.

Cheers

Mt Buller Fire Update Part 4

Hi All,

As you may know, the next couple of days are going to be tough up on the mountain. If the weather changes as expected then Buller is heading for trouble.

The Mt Buller Road was closed to ALL traffic today. And the CFA continue their efforts to protect assets on Mt Buller.

From Gabby Crehan yesterday (20/12)

Spoke to Caroline today.  They were backburning down Delatite Lane and around the area behind Avalanche.  Mt Buller has had fire approaching on 3 sides for 3 days.  She has removed a few sentimental keepsakes and signs from Nutcracker including the Zanzibar sign, the nutcracker and the squirrel photo, just in case. Caroline was quoted on Page 4 of today’s ‘Age’ stating that she intended to ‘Sue God over all this’ and that she would celebrate with some good French champagne when it was all over.  She certainly does deserve it! Regards Gabby

Personally, I think Caroline deserves a whole case of Moet & Chandon for the efforts she has put in!

Thanks for the update Gabby.

I will update the website as news comes to hand.

 Cheers

Amazing Pictures from Bairnsdale

Hi Everyone,

I recieved these amazing pictures last week that were taken at 2pm last Thursday.

Awesome stuff. I would have been pretty scared if I was in that. A bit too Apocalyptic for me!

There aren’t anymore updates from Caroline as yet, but from checking the DSE and CFA websites, it’s far from over.  Looks like all  the resorts are in the firing line with Falls Creek and Hotham Heights not far from the action now.

Bairnsdale @ 2pm! Bairnsdale @ 2pm! Sale @ 2 pm!

Cheers

Mt Buller Fire Update Part 3

From Gabby Crehan @ 7:59pm

Hi Members,

Caroline has given us another update on the situation at Mt Buller.

A fire near Merrijig yesterday burnt through 6km in under an hour. Craig’s Hut burnt down last night.
The southerly change came in at 11.00pm reducing the immediate danger to Mt Buller.
The rain came early this morning washing away the foam the brigade had sprayed out yesterday.
Two strike teams will stay on the mountain in case conditions turn around again.
Caroline has moved back into Merrijig Lodge but is keeping her possessions in bags in her car just in case.
All cars are housed in underground carparks around the mountain.
