A reason to stay in bed!
If you ever needed a reason for ’starting a family’ whilst on a romantic skiing holiday, then this is a good one.
Researches at Berkley University, California, have concluded that male children have a longer life expectancy if they are born in colder climates. This study was based on the Japanese myth surrounding the Northern Lights, namely that a child conceived while the Aurora are playing overhead would be born under an extremely fortunate sign. This belief has Japanese tourists travelling in hoards to Lapland, and also to the unusual accommodation destination, the glass igloos of Kakslauttanen!
The study based it’s findings using Scandinavian birth, death and temperature records between 1878 and 1914. Researches concluded that males gestated during colder years survived two weeks longer on average than males gestated in warmer climates.
I’m sure this will entice skiiers to try the bedroom version of the Downhill Slalom more often ;)
